Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve looked and perhaps booked | We answer some of your questions before your consultation with us.

Q. Which treatment should I have?

We look at your face holistically. Your consultation and treatment plan with Dr Raphael Aesthetics is bespoke to your needs. You’ve thought about your desired look for some time, so this is an opportunity to ask the expert. Our philosophy is underpinned by choice, care and integrity. We would never recommend a treatment that would be unsuitable, or prevent you from achieving your goals. We always allow enough time for you to have treatment on the same day if you wish.

Q. What is Anti Wrinkle Treatment and how does it work?

Quite simply, this is a non surgical, safe and effective method to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to promote a fresh and youthful look. The process is generally painless and involves injecting careful amounts of Botulinum Toxin or filler under the skin. You will not require anaesthetic.

At Raphael Aesthetics, we treat facial areas using a variety of techniques based on your individual needs. The anti wrinkle injection we use is mainly Bocouture ® in clinic (manufactured by Merz) which clinical studies have shown, goes through a higher purification process as compared to other types of toxin. The main aim of Botulinum Toxin (Brands Botox® or Bocouture®) is to reduce expression lines and promote a youthful look.

Q. Is my treatment safe?

Yes. Botulinum toxin has been in medical use for decades, is strictly regulated and is a safe, quick and effective treatment used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as gummy smile. It is injected in small amounts under the skin and is generally painless.

Q. When is the best time to have Anti Wrinkle treatment?

The best time to have this done is when you begin to notice lines or wrinkles appearing even when your face is relaxed. This usually happens in your mid 30’s but will differ with each person depending on genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors such as smoking, stress, sun exposure etc.

Q. Where can the treatment be applied?

Most places.

At Dr Raphael Aesthetics, we most commonly (but not exhaustively) treat:

Forehead lines

Crows feet (eyes)

Frown area

Bunny lines

Lip lines

Gummy smile

Q. What type of filler is used by Dr Raphael Aesthetics

We mainly use Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based fillers. Although it has ‘acid’ in its name it is actually a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all soft tissues throughout the body, with 50% of it being found in our skin. Our bodies use it to attract and bind water in the skin providing volume and hydration.

As we age our bodies start to slow down production of HA and we start to lose its benefits. HA is invaluable to our skin. With its ability to attract and retain moisture, in essence, it effectively plumps out the skin – it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improves the hydration and texture of the skin.

We mainly use Belotero fillers because they can be used individually or in combination to create an aesthetic and natural solution for your skin’s structure. Other brand fillers such as Profhilo, Aliaxin, and Juvederm are also used in the clinic.

Q. How long do fillers last?

Longevity of filler is dependent on several factors: your age, metabolism, lifestyle, medical conditions, volume injected, location and product used. Filler lasts anywhere from 6 months -18 months. After careful assessment, we only use the best products available for your needs.

Q. Can you dissolve and refill Lips (or other treatments)?

Yes. There is normally a minimum of 7 days, between dissolve and refill, to ensure that the dissolving agent does not interfere with the new filler going in. Therefore, it may well be a total of two trips. One for the dissolve and one for the refill.

Q. Can you work on scarred lips/ cleft lips?

Yes, this is possible. We actually work on a lot of scarred tissue, largely resulting from accidents or cleft lips. The results would be the same, but the recovery may be different, as we may likely need to use a needling technique to sculpt the lips and scar tissue with more accuracy.

Q. Why do you use Cannulas?

Up until recently the only, and preferred, method for delivery of soft tissue fillers, such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, or autologous fat, to the face and hands has been via a sharp tipped hypodermic needle. However, recent advancements have seen the introduction of blunt tipped cannulas, and more specifically micro-cannulas. Raphael Aesthetics use the latest technology Steriglide Cannulas for optimum control, comfort and precision

There are 3 key benefits:

• Cannulas are blunt, which means that they are less likely to pierce through a vein or artery. This results in less swelling, bruising and intravascular injection of filler.

• Cannulas are longer, allowing for more control, fewer injections and entry points through the skin.

• Cannulas can go in through the same entry point multiple times without hurting the patient.

Q. What is a Tear Trough treatment?

Depending on your ethnicity, tear troughs (also known as grooves and dark hollows – under eye) may be present from youth and can lead to a distracting appearance. It can also develop as we age and lose volume in our face.

As the skin in this area is thin and delicate, tear trough fillers are used to soften and minimize the appearance of under eye hollows and give the eyes a fresh and rejuvenated appearance.

Q. Can you help me with my Gummy Smile?

Yes. A gummy smile treatment is when we inject a small amount of Botulinum Toxin into the levator muscles of the upper lip. This prevents the muscles from being hyperactive, it reduces its elevation and ultimately allows the lips to cover the gum. This is sometimes combined with a lip augmentation treatment which lasts between 3-6 months.

Q. What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a completely different type of filler that can be used to remodel the hands, neck, face, décolletage and upper arms, to spread a fine level over a larger area to refresh – rather than to volumize. The filler provides a unique lifting and tightening effect to hydrate and remodel sagging and ageing tissue.

This treatment is performed in two quick, relatively pain free sittings taken 4 -6 weeks apart. Patients experience minimal to no bruising, so you can get on with your daily routine with confidence. You can expect to see results within a month, but the very best results will be after the second session.
